Originally a Japanese Shinto shrine, it was converted (1970) to a memorial to those killed after World War Two (WWII) during the handover of Taiwan to the new Republican Government from Japan (1945). The shrine is today situated next to Taichung’s Confucius temple (see map). Both provide a sense of tranquility among the hustle and bustle of the surrounding city in a peaceful garden setting.
